Message From Our Legislative
Committee Chairman

Citizens in Tennessee are represented in state government by their elected state representatives and state senators. But citizens also have another voice in the legislature: the Tennessee Sheriffs Association.

Second only to the Board of Directors, the Tennessee Sheriff’s Association Legislative Committee works diligently every year to add another voice to legislative decisions that affect not only law enforcement but citizens as well. Over the past few years, the TSA Legislative Committee, working with our lobbyist Jimmy Music, has supported legislation such as improved transportation of mentally ill persons, increased penalties for crimes affecting Tennessee citizens, improved crime victim notification systems, and recently banned cryptocurrency machines used in scamming operations.

Many challenges face our state, including violent crimes, mental health, addiction, and scamming.  Beginning each September, the Legislative Committee starts its process of identifying specific issues to be addressed in our state legislative process and setting goals in working with our legislative partners to make things better for officers, jails, inmates, schools, roadways, and citizens, as well as public safety overall, so Tennessee continues to be a great state to live, work, and raise a family.

Regards,

Joe Guy
